I used to love Daesung. I mean really, really. This week’s Fangirl Friday is a special one (I say that every week, don’t I?). I don’t even really know how it happened. K-pop fans have a term called “Bias Wrecker” where a person sneaks into the top spot of your list. I didn’t even HAVE a list. I swear it was like I woke up and *BAM* Daesung was there. That’s not really true. I’m lying (that’s how G-Dragon got there but that’s another story). I knew of Daesung before I became a fan of k-pop. I stumbled across Family Outing Season 1 and started watching. It. Cracked. Me. Up. He and Yoo Jae Suk as the Dumb & Dumber Brothers had me in stitches every episode.
By the time I had finished the season, I was a goner for Daesung. Funny. Nice. The eye smile…his voice. Fast forward to when I was fully submersed in my Hallyu lifestyle. To when Fantastic Baby came out. To when I saw Daesung for the first time in what seemed like years.
I just…yeah. I was a true gonner. No one could talk about my bias. I would turn into one of “those” fans. You know…the crazy ones that had no sense in life. But whatever, I didn’t care.
When Big Bang came to the States, I waited in line for 12 FREAKING HOURS to be sure I had the best view of the stage in order to see him. And when he gave me some fan service…it was the best thing that had ever happened in my Hallyu life. I may or may not have shed some tears on the train ride back to VA because it was over and I knew that ish would NEVER happen again.
Now days, I barely hear about Daesung. I know he is a H U G E star in Japan and is holding tons of concerts there. I follow The Band Six (YG’s amazing band) and know he’s doing well. Shoot I even have a copy of his Japanese album because…he was my #1. But things change. I have other biases now and like that old saying “out of sight, out of mind.”
Every so often I come across some Daesung magnets my dear friend sent me and I smile.
This sounds like a freaking letter to an old flame. But I don’t care because…reasons. K-pop fans understand.
Love ya Daesung! We’ll always have Jersey.
