Reviewing NCT 127 Sticker was not in my plans when I woke up this morning. Plans change. It’s been a while since I reviewed anything on my blog, and after listening to the title track, I wasn’t sure if this album was for me, but I decided to give it a try while running my errands. I’m so glad that I did because BABY! Let’s get into it, shall we?

Sticker

A friend said that Sticker is like Aespa’s Next Level, you don’t like it at first, but it grows on you. Dang it, they were right. When I first heard the song, I had the Chrissy Tegan face. I didn’t hate it; I just didn’t understand it. The whistle, the guitar riff, the piano… they all sounded like they were for different songs and accidentally got mixed. It just works, I guess. The vocals are solid, and Mark, Johnny, and Taeyong did the damn thing with their lines. Maybe if I listen to it a few more times, I’ll get more into it.

Lemonade

Lemonade is a song for the club. I don’t twerk, but I would shake a cheek to this. Respectfully. This bass-driven song is guaranteed to get the listener dancing in their seats. This song seems like an F U to their haters, which I approve of wholeheartedly. Mark using their previous hits in his rap was pure genius. 

My favorite part of the song is Yuta, Haechan, Taeil, and Doyoung singing together on the bridge. Their voices sound so good together. I know this isn’t the first time they’ve done it, but something about this bridge had me making a stank face.

I wish the video were longer because the energy NCT 127 brought while dancing in the cage surrounded by fire is what I need in my life. 

Breakfast

Breakfast does not make me want breakfast. It makes me want to dance. Plain and simple. It could be at a club or during a random dance play where I bust out some original choreography. Is there such a thing as grunge, hip-hop club music? That’s what I think of when I hear this song. I’m not mad at it, though! How can I be when the boys are asking to be together and get breakfast in the morning? I’m reading the English lyrics, and goodness! Is everything about sex? That’s my interpretation anyway. What do you think?

Focus

Chill is a euphemism. You can’t change my mind about that. Focus is the B-side I need in my life. Who wrote this song? Were they thinking of me when they did? This song is so much my style; I had to pull over and listen to it twice. With the smooth vibe and drum track, this song is a perfect slow down from the previous songs without being jarring.

NCT 127’s vocal line KILLED this. Do you understand what I’m saying? From Doyoung’s breathy notes at the beginning to Taeil hitting THAT note (1:36 mark), they all ate this song up and left no crumbs. 

The rap line complimented the song perfectly. I know when Taeyong said he was tired of waiting, many fans damn near fainted. It’s me. I’m fans. 

The Rainy Night

What a beautiful song to calm down to. This album so far has started with the highest of highs and now has floated down to a slower tempo filled with piano chords. The vocal line sang their hearts out with this one, as they talked about days gone by and how they can’t let you go. Not a lot of words are needed for this one. Just enjoy the vibes.

 

Far

Far’s tempo is bringing us back to the dance floor. It’s a decent song, and I like it. However, I might have to update my thoughts on this song later because I can’t focus on it aside from nodding along to the music and doing my famous chair dance. It’s because of Focus. I can’t get past it, and I’m sorry to Far because it deserves more from me.

Bring The Noize

The title speaks for itself. Bring The Noize is, well, noisy. Some people enjoy music like this, and that’s great. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them. Shout out for consistency, though! Every NCT album has a car noise in some form.

Magic Carpet Ride

Maybe they put Magic Carpet Ride after Bring The Noize to help soothe frazzled eardrums. This song is perfect as soft background noise as you fall asleep or take a late-night drive to clear your mind. Another track where you just close your eyes and enjoy it, but make sure you aren’t driving if you choose to do that.

Road Trip

This isn’t one of my favorite B-sides, but it’s not bad. Who wouldn’t want to go on a road trip with their significant other? It’s a nice break between the grunge, hip-hop club music, and the slow, close your eyes music.

Dreamer

This song gives me the feeling that the album is almost over. Have you ever been to a concert and the group comes back to do an encore? Instead of the fancy choreography and whatnot, the group is just hanging out, waving to the crowd and singing? That’s what I feel with Dreamer.

Promise You

Yes. This is definitely the end of the album. It’s the last encore song, the house lights have come up, and the confetti has already fallen. A decent ending to an album that put me through so many emotions, I need a nap after listening to it.

Final Thoughts

The B sides saved NCT 127 Sticker for me. I am a massive fan of theirs, and it’s great to see how they’ve grown and aren’t afraid to try different styles of music, even if I don’t like the result.
