It is the strangest thing. I have gotten so enamored with A Gentlemen’s Dignity. I call it strange because out of all the dramas that have been airing recently, I was not going to watch this. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the actors and actresses but even though I knew who Kim Soro was, I wasn’t interested in watching it. I read great things about the first episode so I decided I would give it a try. Man oh man was I ever glad I tried it.
A Gentleman’s Dignity is a rom-com about 4 best friends, Kim Do-Jin , Im Tae-San, Choi Yoon and Lee Jung-Rok,s and the various stages of relationships in life. Seo Si Yoo is an ethics high school teacher/baseball umpire who is in love with her roommates boyfriend, Im Tae San. Through the mysterious forces of kdrama, Tae San’s friend Do Jin meets Si Yoo and falls in love with her.
It’s not the traditional kdrama love however. Instead of Do Jin deciding to love her and only her, he still continues to sleep with other women and doing all kinds of crazy things (IMO) and doing whatever it takes to piss off Si Yoo. There’s only been 4 episodes so far and I’m not sure how its going to continue.
In addition to the Tae-San/Si Yoo/Do-Jin triangle, there seems to be a teenage son looking for his father (one of the F44) and Tae San’s younger sister, Im Maeri, is in love with Choi Yoon.
I think what I like the most about this drama is that its about the lives of older people. 90% of the actors in kdramas are younger then this young ajummah so its refreshing to see something about another age group. Also I like it because (and even though its been 4 episodes) this drama is very light compared to the other dramas I’m watching. I definitely recommend it if only to see what the middle aged k-drama world is like.
