Where is the better place to get my fix of k-dramas?
I am sure a lot of people have this question and honestly I have it almost daily. Here’s why. I love k-dramas but I am also a quality lover as well. Also being an instant gratification type of person, I hate waiting forever for stuff. So I am going to review (briefly) what each site has to offer and let you make your own decisions.
I watched Boys Over Flowers through Hulu which has an agreement with Dramafever. Once I got to the source, I was extremely happy. I cannot tell you how many dramas I’ve seen on Dramafever. The quality is high quality and for a fee of about $50 a year, you won’t have to deal with any commercials, though the commercials are only about 30-45 secs every so often. They have ea lot of dramas from the “olden days” like 2007, which is great when you want to see the classics. They also have a lot of newer/currently airing dramas and they are getting more every day. For example, (as of this day) they are getting Inkigayo and next week will be getting RUNNING MAN (best variety show ever).
Also you can watch Dramafever on your tv through Hulu if you have a device that streams internet yumminess, like an XBox, Wii or Blue Ray player. This is always a nice break from using the laptop.
The only gripe I have about Dramafever is that they take a few days to get dramas when they are airing. Remember when I said I’m an instant gratification type of ajummah?
I don’t even know how I came across Viki. I think one of the other drama addicts I know, who can’t get Dramafever in their country told me about it. Anyways I do remember the first drama I watched on Viki was City Hunter. I started when it was still airing and I got spoiled by how quickly it got translated. If it ran on Tuesday in Korea, It was available to me by Wednesday evening. The translation was a bit spotty to the ajummah who didn’t know how to even say 안녕하세요, it was fine.
Additionally, Viki has this feature where the fans can leave comments that stream over the drama. At first it annoyed me because I like to focus on the drama but I have to be honest. Some of those comments are so funny! They actually add to the drama. I’m sure you’ve all screamed something at the screen when the leads do something you don’t like. Well 9 times out of 10, someone left a comment saying the exact thing that you thought.
The downside, like I mentioned earlier, the translation can be off. Also there are commercials. More then I like, though sometimes they are the Korean ones that they show during the drama so I can pretend that I’m sitting in a cafe in Itewon watching it.
So what’s the final decision? I am loyal to both, honestly. If I can hold out for a few days (which does happen, occassionally) I watch them on Dramafever for the clarity, no commercials and awesome translations. Otherwise I head over to Viki. Oh and if I want to see something that isn’t on Dramafever, I head over to Viki.
There are a lot of other sites that have dramas but honestly I don’t trust them because of all the bad viruses floating around waiting to attack my laptop. I had that happen once and don’t want it to happen again. So its totally up to you. Let me know which one you prefer or if you go somewhere else entirely.

One thing to remember about DramaFever and Hulu is that DF licenses the dramas from the source so when you watch through them, you are supporting the company. They need to make it more accessible to everyone and not just the US.

This is a great post though! <3
Hi there! I like DramaFever, but their billing practices can be shady. I became a member with them when you could pay $4.99 month to month. I was guaranteed that when their prices increased, since I was a long time member, that my monthly cost would stay the same. Well, they "accidentally" removed my premium member status twice and then told me that I would need to re-enter my billing
I watched my first 5 or 6 drama's on Netflix. Then I went searching and found the DramaFever Roku app. It worked fine for 5-6 mos until around Dec 2011 and then hit some subtitle issues. DramaFever worked on it but not fast enough. It took months and months to get it together. Still to this day lines of dialogue are missing and worse I'll log on for a weekend watch and whole episodes are

They both don’t have a virus right?
That is correct! They don’t have any viruses that could harm your computer.
