Let me start this post by saying this. I am NOT a historical drama lover. It’s not that I despise them, they just aren’t my cup of tea (except Damo which was amazing). I am, however, a HUGE fan of horror/thriller dramas. Enter The Night Watchman.
A fantasy romance drama set during the Joseon dynasty. This drama is about Lee Rin, a prince who lives a lonely life outside the palace since childhood, even though he is born in the direct line of descent. Lee Rin has wealth and good looks but lives as a rebel to overcome internal struggles. Due to the fact that he can see ghosts, Lee Rin hides his secret and pain from childhood with a smiling face and playful behavior. After meeting Do Ha, Lee Rin will be joining the team of night watchman and becomes a true prince after seeing the lives of the citizens as he helps get rid of the ghosts. The night watchman is crime prevention squad that used to patrol the streets from 9 to 5 at night to catch ghosts.
It sounded interesting but I will admit that I was hung up on it being a sageuk. But a conversation with a fellow drama watcher made me change my mind.
@OrionsRamblings I love Kim Seong Oh. There is something about him, when he plays a psycho… *nods*

@OrionsRamblings oh wait. He’s in that? I’m headed there now. — Young Ajummah (@Young_Ajummah) August 16, 2014
Seriously that is all that it took. I figured that it couldn’t really hurt if Kim Song Oh was in it. I mean the man is handsome. And the drama did hit some of my other criteria. One episode wasn’t going to kill me.
You know how I am about historical dramas but I am going to try my best to watch #NightWatchman. Using my Roku .@allthekdrama app.

I was presently surprised! Yes it was a historical drama but it was great! Spock and I marathoned the first 4 episodes last night. He tried to act like he wasn’t interested but clearly he was, lol. I like that there was so much going on. The creepy ghost smoke, the ridiculous grandmother queen, the whiny prince. Whoever this child actor is…he deserves a medal of the year in most whiny child EVER! Even Spock was getting annoyed.
Spock just told me he was getting pretty tired of “that kid’s whining.” re: the prince on #thenightwatchman I kinda agree. — Young Ajummah (@Young_Ajummah) August 17, 2014
I was all over the place with my thoughts while watching the episodes. I saw a lot of familiar faces but I have terrible memory when it comes to names.
Is this the police chief from #YouAreAllSurrounded? #NightWatchman

THE GIRL FROM MISS KOREA! that’s who I think it is. It’s been bugging me for the past episode. #thenightwatchman

The eunuch is the guy from A Gentleman’s Dignity, yes? #thenightwatchman

I laughed, I cried…okay I didn’t cry but I did feel sorry for the little prince that got kicked out of the palace.
All in all this was a decent first 4 episode. I was sad that there aren’t more episodes available to watch. I guess I’ll have just have to wait like half of the country that is watching. Please check it out if/when you get the chance. And if you are liking it, let me know what your favorite about the drama is!

I am totally going to check this out. I was hesitate… because I also do not enjoy the historical dramas. With the exception of anything Lee Min Ho. I had not idea that this drama was fantasy based. Add some ghosts and I am all in!
I don’t remember what episode I’m on but I am still enjoying it!
