On August 20th I attended the KHip-Hop Show put on by KATCH during the Asian Festival in Ft. Washington, MD. It was hot. The weather, the artists, the people in general… *ahem* At any rate, the host for the show was Woojong who did a lovely job as usual.
The first act up was a beatboxer named Chip Han. He was amazing and I believe I saw him at the Korus Festival 2014. The way my brain is set up though, I can’t be sure. After Chip was Gi K. She’s the ish!!!! I mean if you don’t know, watch the video. I’m not sure if she’s considered a pop-locker, break dancer, or what but OMG! I wish she had performed to more than one song. *sigh*
Next up was Melo LV & E.den. Melo LV sang the most since the festival was a family affair (read: Eden’s song are more for the adult fan) but Eden did his best to support her during some of the duets. After a brief intermission, Apollo, Gemini & Mike Maiku Mike took the stage.
Now let me say, I have heard of this trio many times. You can’t run in Hallyu circles and not either run into the same people or hear of them. This was the first time I had ever HEARD them perform though, and I have to say they are all amazing. They each had a different style and if I HAD to pick a favorite…I’d say Apollo. His flow is more my style, though as I said earlier, all 3 had the crowd hype.
The last to perform was the queen herself, Hee Sun Lee. She closed the show out by moving the crowd to dance (despite the heat) and dropped some knowledge on the women in the audience about female rappers (I wish I had recorded it).
This was the first time I’ve attended a festival like this (except Korus 2014) and I am happy to say that I will be attending local events like this in the future.
*ps* there was an after party where a lot of interesting things went down. New hashtags were made and I’m debating on whether or not I should talk about it in another post. Hmmm…
