It’s amazing how we wait for KCON for so long and it seems like it takes forever for the day to get here. As soon as it starts, however, it’s over. That’s how I felt for KCON NY 2019 concert night 2. I felt much more relaxed during this time because my workshops ended well and I received some nice feedback. I also ran into Kevin Woo’s dancers from night one and took a photo with them. Instant mood lifter.
My seats were in the same area as the first night which meant they weren’t that bad. The first night we had to deal with some folks who stood and recorded the whole night but for night 2 they were either too tired or didn’t enjoy it as much as we did. Either way, I’m glad Fanboy and I could see the concert stage.
Esna opened the evening by singing a few songs and I gotta say her voice is amazing. She has a very jazzy style that I enjoy so much that a mass download is in order. If you aren’t familiar with her, you definitely need to get with the program.
After Esna’s brief performance, Fromis_9 began their set. I know they aren’t rookies but I still can’t think of any songs they’ve made off the top of my head. Thankfully one song they performed, I did recognize.
There was one complaint that I had with Fromis_9’s performance and ya’ll don’t hate me for this. Didn’t it seem like their lip-synching was really off? I know it’s difficult to sing and dance at the same time without sounding like a dragon is breathing in the microphone, however…it was really bad. I heard a few other people complaining about it in my seating area so I know I wasn’t alone in thinking this.
Seventeen came out to do a special stage and got the crowd super hyped. We wanted more but they left as quickly as they came. Then it was time for another group I didn’t know much about, VeriVery. Actually, another question just popped into my head. If they are going in order of seniority, why didn’t VeriVery go on stage first? [questions only the k-pop gods can answer] I know they tried their best but my goodness, I can’t remember their performance. Hopefully, they will become more memorable in the future.
AB6ix really put on a performance! I love their song Breathe and I appreciated that they let their member who was hurt still participate. He sat in the chair and rapped his parts but let his counterparts do the dancing. I don’t know their names yet but all you need to do is watch the fancams and you’ll know which one I mean. Their music was on point and I definitely added them to the list of artists I need to pay attention to.
(G)I-DLE came out next much to my happiness. I love their songs (ugh I’m sounding repetitive) so I was excited to hear them. Colored me let down. The girls did perform their new song, Uh-Oh in entirety but they only did snippets of their hits. I don’t know if there was a time crunch or something but I was let down. Not even a Wow Thing nor Popstars were mentioned. They sounded great though so I suppose that should be good enough for me.
SF9 did their set and it was funny to watch a friend who was sitting nearby fall in love with Rowoon. Their song, RPM, was enjoyable but I was ready for the last group. Finally, it was the time I was waiting for. That’s right, Seventeen. Oh, I was so FREAKING AMPED! They started the night with the song I wanted to hear the most, Good To Me.
What can I say about their performance that hasn’t been said already? It blew me away. On social media, I always talk about how I’m a k-pop fan but I don’t claim a fandom due to the toxicity of it all but that night? I declared myself a Carat. On the way home I looked for all things Seventeen. A year ago, I recorded a video where Fanboy and I tried to find our favorite Seventeen song. It never got uploaded because it was too damn long for me to deal with but I might have to now, lol.
KCON NY 2019 concert night 2 was my favorite of the 2 nights and the reason was largely due to the energy that Seventeen had. I wish I could bottle that and keep it for when I need to work some long nights.
As I said at the beginning of this post, as quickly as it started, the weekend was over and it was back to reality. I wish I could have stayed longer and I wish that I could have done more. Seventeen has a world tour coming up so hopefully, we’ll be able to get tickets for that.
What did you think of night 2? Was there anything you wished happened that didn’t? Let me know in the comments! I hope to see you all at KCON LA 2019!
