I feel like before I say anything else, I need to caution everyone. If you have a weak stomach, don’t care for violence and have a tendency to have nightmares, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. I am so serious. It took me two times to finish I Saw The Devil because I got disturbed, and nothing usually bothers me. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!

Review:

I Saw The Devil stars Lee Byung-hun (Iris, G.I. Joe) and Choi Min-sik (Old Boy, Lady Vengeance). Lee Byung-hun plays Soo hyun, an elite police agent. One night his pregnant wife gets abducted and murdered in a very horrific way by Kyung-chul (Choi Min-sik).

Soo Hyun gets BEYOND obsessed with finding out who is responsible. He takes a leave of absence from work and basically embraces his dark side.

It took a short time but he finds Kyung-chul and begins his game of cat and mouse with him. He finds him in the middle of a crime, fighting ensues but rather than killing him or turning him into the police, he leaves him unconscious & with money so he can find him again. On and on it goes…

Finally, Soo-hyun realizes that all this “playing” can lead to mistakes (which happen to disastrous effects) and the movie reaches the peak that viewers at this point are begging for (at least I was).  I’m not going to tell you who stays alive and who dies but I will say this, there aren’t any happy ending in my opinion.

Final Thoughts

I Saw The Devil shows a side of Lee Byung-hun’s acting skills I haven’t seen before and wow… yeah. He’s obscenely good looking in this movie but it didn’t even register after the movie got started because you get caught up in all the gore.

If you are interested in watching  the movie, here’s the trailer:
