It’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie but it was so good, I would give it disservice if I didn’t review it. As you know Ajummah is all about crime/thriller/drama. Oh and of course the supernatural. I cannot remember how I found this movie but I’m glad I did. Here’s what AsianWiki has to say about it:
A missing person case involving a female university student and the victim in a hit and run case appears to be related. Detectives look for a witness.
Min Soo-Ah was in the police academy before she lost her eyesight in the car accident. Min Soo-Ah reveals to Detective Jo, played by Jo Hee Bong, at the police station that on the night of the hit and run case she was picked up by a taxi cab driver. Soo-Ah believes the taxi driver may be the perpetrator of the crimes. Initially, Detective Jo doesn’t take Soo-Ah’s claims seriously because she is blind, but when Soo-Ah displays her acute senses the detective starts to believe her. Meanwhile, Min Soo-Ah finds herself being stalked by a mysterious man …
Holy crap! That accident was insane! I jumped and screamed! The way Soo-Ah tries to save her sibling and the way she ends up blind…wow. So naturally since the movie starts off with action, I was into it. A few years pass and we see Soo-Ah trying to reenter the academy but gets the brush off because of her actions leading up to the accident.
Upset she heads up to visit her mom. Mom wants her to go to a memorial service for her sibling. Soo-Ah feels responsible for the death and refuses (in my opinion, she kinda is responsible). She runs out the house and waits for a cab to head home. Now I’ve had plenty of fights with my mom but I’ve never sat in pouring down rain for what seems like hours because I refuse to go back home. I guess that’s not the case for Soo-Ah.
This is where it really starts gettng interesting. Soo-Ah gets into what she thinks is a cab and gives the driver her address. Driver gives her some coffee and encourages her to drink. I mean SERIOUSLY. She tries to brush off the offers but he snatches the coffee out her hand in order to open it for her. Did I mention he’s doing all this while he’s driving. AND ITS RAINING!?!?! So naturally a person runs out into the road right when they’re driving by and SMASH! The driver jumps out, Soo-Ah jumps out and then we see that the driver is actually this blankity blank crazy dude that kidnaps women.
Soo-Ah knows something is up and fights her way out of that madness and heads to the police. Naturally they don’t believe her. She’s blind, how could she “see” anything? Thankfully Soo-Ah put Detective Jo in his place.
A witness appears but he’s this snot nosed kid, so they don’t believe him. It takes a while and he ends up in the hospital due to a run in with the baddie but they finally get together on all fronts.
While all this is happening, the baddie that is the cab driver is looking for Soo-Ah. He finally catches up with her in the most heart-wrenching, pulse-speeding, nail biting scene, I’ve seen in a while. I sobbed. Seriously. I won’t review the spoiler but there was a point where I screamed out no and then gasped and exploded into sobs. And the movie KEEPS GOING.
Yes there is a happy ending but man, the road getting there was rough. Kim Ha-Neul plays the mess out of Soo-Ah! I don’t think I’ve rooted for anyone so hard before. An excellent movie if you are into thrillers and action. Even if you aren’t you should check it out. How I missed this movie for so long is beyond me but I’m glad I found it in the end.
