Oooh, man. The Korean movie Innocent Thing was crazy! When you watch Korean dramas, you go through 49 episodes before the male and female lead kiss. That is pretty much the extent of the sexuality of the show. Holding hands, back hugs, and LOTS of longing looks at each other when they think no one is looking. In the k-pop side of the world, most girl groups are marketed as sexy yet innocent and pure. As a matter of fact, netizens and fans will throw shade and hate when a group tries to step outside the box and show off their sexuality in the form of risky dancing and costume choices. Even the most jaded individual (such as myself) sometimes forgets that the whole “innocent” thing can be just an illusion. Enter Innocent Thing.

I wanted something to watch but didn’t feel up to marathoning a drama. After floating around the internet, this movie popped up on my radar. I quickly checked out the blurb on AsianWiki:

Joon-Ki is a popular P.E. teacher at a girl’s high school. He is married to Seo-Yeon who is expecting their first child imminently. During swimming class, a student named Young-Eun climbs up to the highest diving platform and jumps into the swimming pool. Joon-Ki jumps into the water and saves her. Days later, Joon-Ki is leaving school on a rainy late afternoon and runs into Young-Eun who is completely drenched. Joon-Ki takes Young-Eun back into school to change clothes. They spend time together in a classroom, with Young-Eun behaving in a flirtatious manner. Soon, Joon-Ki’s marriage to Seo-Yeon is threatened.

Review:

Jang Hyuk plays the P.E. teacher in question, and right off the bat, you can tell that he is enjoying the fact that all the girls in his school have a thing for him. His wife seems to come from an affluent family, and Joon-Ki appears out of place at the dinner table since he’s merely a “school teacher.” Enter Young Eun. She says that he is her first love, and she follows him around religiously. They run into each other at the store. She’s cheering him on during his rugby matches, and he likes it. It escalates pretty quickly until there are lips locking and breast grabbing. By the way, WRITERS OF KOREAN MOVIES: having a male grab a female’s breast so hard they look like they’re going to pop is NOT COOL. Seriously, cut that ish out. It’s not attractive, and it irks the nerves of your female viewers.

The groping doesn’t go anywhere, and there is a close call that causes Joon-Ki to end the “relationship” with Young Eun. Only she isn’t having any of that. Instead, she begins stalking him, flipping out on anyone that she believes is too close to him and basically goes crazy.

While all that was happening, Joon-Ki was trying his hardest to stay cool in front of his pregnant wife, But speaking as a wife, I knew, and she knew, he wasn’t fooling anyone. She knew something was up. I’m not sure if it was pregnancy brain or what, but all this woman did was run through scenarios where her husband and the student were having hot monkey sex while simultaneously laughing at her. I was rolling my eyes while making sure no one in my household was around my computer screen.

In the end, things happened that left Joon-ki bawling his eyes out as the credits rolled and me saying this:

Final Thoughts

All in all, it was an interesting movie, though it did make me feel disgusted about this teacher who couldn’t keep his hands to himself, but hey, I guess it kept the storyline going.

From the trailer it reminds me of The Crush with Carey Elwes and Alicia Silverstone.

This review was honestly too biased and sounds feminist. This isnt a review at all. It’s full of bs.

Hello and thank you for your comment. It might sound feminist to you but to me, A WOMAN, it just sounds like me. As far as the “bs” portion of your comment, obviously you haven’t seen the movie. Thanks for stopping by my site and voicing your opinions.
