Review:
Man, this movie made me sad. I have a soft spot for the child actor in this, and he pulled on my heartstrings. HARD. I’ve wanted to see Murderer for a few weeks, ever since I’ve been obsessed with Ma Dong Seok. So I was happy to see that MyAsianTv had it and that I had time to watch it. Here’s what AsianWiki has to say about it.
Joo-Hyub is a cold blooded serial killer, but he tries to live unnoticed in a small village with his son Yong-Ho. His son becomes friends with Ji-Soo who is a new transfer student at his school. Ji-Soo soon realizes that Joo-Hyub is a serial killer. Joo-Hyub decides to kill Ji-Soo for himself and his son.
*sigh* Okay, let’s get into this.
I felt such a terrible sadness for Yong-ho. He wants to have a father that engages in conversation with him and is semi-normal but instead has this psychotic father who barely says two words to him. He gets bullied in school because his dad is a dog catcher/seller, and he has zero friends, but maybe his teacher (can you call your teacher a friend?) When Ji-soo enters the scene, he is so damn adorable, doing everything he can to get her to notice him & be his friend; I almost threw up from sadness.
Ji-soo comes from a pretty effed-up family as well. I felt a bit bad for her, but I didn’t have much sympathy because she was mean to my Yong-ho in the beginning. She gets friendly with Yong-ho, and things are nice…for a while.
Some things happen which cause Yong-ho to flip the freak out. He starts attacking those who’d bullied him (though I believe they had it coming), and at one point, he drinks someone’s blood. YES.
It wasn’t as glamorous as True Blood or Vampire Prosecutor, but still. Also, while that is happening, Joo-Hyub is slipping back into his killer ways. He remembers Ji-soo from his past and decides to take her out (kill her) so that he and Yong-ho can live together in some weird harmony. Obviously, that doesn’t happen.
I don’t even know if there is a happy ending with this movie…maybe? But man, all I wanted to do was hug Yong-ho. This actor is doing great things, and I look forward to his next work. Ma Dong Seok…he was alright in this movie. I wish the role gave him room to do other things, but he did alright.
So tell me, have you seen it yet? What did you think? Check out the trailer below if you are unsure! And as always, check out my other Korean movie reviews here.
