Review

I’ve been trying for about 2 weeks to write a review for this movie. I think this is the first movie I’ve seen that has just made me feel bad about life. Now don’t misunderstand, this was a good movie. Well written, well acted…. ugh I guess I should just review it then you can understand right?

Voice of A Murderer came out in 2007. It’s about a news anchor named Han Kyung-Bae, who’s son disappears after his mother tells him to go outside and play. FOR 5 HOURS. She doesn’t check on him one time (as far as the movie shows) even though the playground he was hanging out in was right the freak downstairs. I’m still upset with it because as a parent, you should always check on your child. Even if you just look out the window for him/her. Also that child was way too young to be out after dark like that.

The kidnapper calls and demands $100,000 and begins this complicated game of extortion.  $200,000 and a dead child later,  the kidnapper is still on the loose.  Now I know what you’re thinking; Ajummah!?!?! Why are you doing a spoiler without the spoiler alert. Well here’s the kicker. This is a true story. *gasp* Yes that’s right. It’s real. Here’s what I got from AsianWiki about the real crime.

Based on the true story of the infamous Apkujeong kidnapping and murder of 9 year old Hyung-ho Lee, which began on January 29th, 1991. 44 days later, the body of the boy was discovered in the sewers of the Han River. In the process the perpetrator called the parents numerous times. The murder was never solved and is now closed, due to the case passing the statue of limitations in Korea (15 years).

Maybe because I’m a mom, it affected me greatly. I mean tears and snot were running down my face in the worst way. I even called on my unnie to try to talk me through it.

@Young_Ajummah that was a tough movie! KDW did an excellent job of replicating that voice!

@Young_Ajummah that was one of my weekend with KDW movies. They always freak me with the ‘its a true story’ at the end! No one knew voice?!!

So bottom line? It’s a good movie. Will I recommend it? *sigh*  Yes, with reservations. It may not bother you the way it did me. Here’s the trailer.

I’m actually not sure where you can watch this because I rented it from my local indie video place (Yes those things do exist) but I’ll look around and update this post if and when I find it. So tell me, have you seen the movie? What did you think of it?
