Hand freaking clap goes to you Taemin. Wow. Bravo. I admit I am a causal SHINee fan. I love their older R&B stuff and 100% respect how hard those men work. Seriously they have to be one of the hardest working kpop groups, male or female, around.  I didn’t know about his solo album until after KCon but when I saw the teaser song Ace, I figured sure, I’ll click the listen button. I was curious to see what his solo style of music would be like.

I don’t know where little Taemin went but he is definitely showing how he’s grown into a lovely lovely man that is not afraid to branch out into different sounding genres (Danger) as well as returning to that R&B vibe that I love so much (Ace). I decided after listening to the album preview that I just HAD to do a music Tuesday on him.

ACE

This has to be my favorite song on the whole minialbum. It’s k-pop after dark but more then that the R&B feels blow in and out of that song…listen to it and try not to nod your head as you groove along. I mean Taemin definitely show’s his growth as a solo artist with this song. There is no complicated dance moves for this song (or at least there shouldn’t be but I haven’t seen the live version, yet). Definitely my style of song.

Danger

This was giving me some Michael Jackson vibes. The course, the style of dress and the cinematography. It’s a solid song and even though there were some parts I didn’t care for (what was up with his nose ring), it again should how much Taemin has grown since he debuted.

Experience

Back to the R&B vibe with this song. It’s a faster pace then Ace but I do enjoy the piano that plays brightly in the background. It sounds like he had a lot of fun with this song.

Pretty Boy

Taemin and Kai. Kai and Taemin singing on one song about (possibly, I need translations) being pretty boys. I don’t think anything else need to be said here. Even if I am way off on what the song is about, its still catchy as hell.

Wicked

 

Starts of slow but gets up to a high/mid tempo (yes that’s the correct terminology). I was just kinda ehhhh with this song. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong but with Ace & Experience& Play Me taking up my top 3 spots, this one kinda fell by the way side for me.

Play Me

Taemin saying “play me” “play my heartbeat” probably had thousands of fangirls falling into a puddle of feels.

I had to slap myself once or twice to remind myself this guy is only a few years older then my son (yes I’m that old).  But as I stated earlier that this song is definitely in my top 3 of the album. Another R&B mid tempo song that you can just groove to and I for one do, multiple times.

Final Thoughts:

Taemin, or should I say TaeMAN, did a fan-freaking-tastic job on his solo album. I cannot wait for all the promotional stuff he’s going to do as well as what song’s he’s going to do m/vs for. Can you imagine if he does one for Pretty Boy with Kai? Ovaries would be exploding all over the world.  So what are your thoughts? Does the album agree with your ears? What are your favorites of it?
