[Throwback Post] Ultimate Love For BigBang

K-Pop

I’m still in suffering from PCD mode and decided that cleaning out my laptop was a good thing to do. I came across this post that I did for…something. It never got published and rather than let it go to waste, I decided to post it here. My love for BigBang is strong. Enjoy! *this post was written before MADE came about*

you’re nodding along to what you can only assume is the chorus, you hear the rapper start with what has to be the deepest voice you’ve ever heard. Now open your eyes and look at the goose bumps on your arm. That is how I was introduced to Korean idol group Big Bang.

The first song I’d ever heard by Big Bang was Haru Haru. I had just finished watching the Korean drama Iris, in which T.O.P had a small part. He was so handsome; I had to find out more about him. Once I read he was in a music group, I was attached to YouTube.

Big Bang debuted in 2006 under YG Entertainment. There are five members in the group: G-Dragon, Daesung, Taeyang, Seungri and T.O.P. They’ve created 6 studio albums, 5 live albums, 7 EPs and are currently preparing with their comeback this April. Fans, like me, are chomping at the bit wishing time would speed up so we can get our hands on their new album.

The main reason why Big Bang is my favorite group is because of how close the members seem to be with each other. Taeyang and G-Dragon have been friends since they were both trainees at YG Entertainment. T.O.P. was also a friend of G-Dragon since before his debut days and Seungri and Daesung also seem to love their band members.

In the world of K-pop, being in the business for 9 years is no small feat. Big Bang survived the dreaded 5 year curse, an urban legend that a group will disband 5 years after they debut. They’ve had their share of scandals from G-Dragon failing a drug test to Daesung running over a motorcyclist with his car. Through it all, the group remained strong and together. That speaks a lot about their character.

I know this probably isn’t what most k-pop fans say when asked about their favorite band, but I’m not like most k-pop fans. Sticking with someone you’ve formed a bond with means a lot to me. I vowed to myself, after playing Haru Haru for the thousandth time, I would stick with them as long as they stuck with each other. Plus they sing pretty well, too.
