I woke up to the news that Simon D has stepped down as co-CEO for AOMG. Honestly, I am confused. Why? AOMG is doing admirably as far as artists, record sales, and fans. Now I admit that I don’t know everything, read anything, about being a CEO so I decided to look up its meaning.
According to Business Dictionary, a CEO is a top executive responsible for a firm’s overall operations and performance. He or she is the leader of the firm, serves as the main link between the board of directors (the board) and the firm’s various parts or levels, and is held solely responsible for the firm’s success or failure. One of the major duties of a CEO is to maintain and implement corporate policy, as established by the board. Also called President or managing director, he or she may also be the chairman (or chairperson) of the board.
It sounds like a really stressful job. Stress, I can understand. I know a lot about stress. At this moment, I have about 4 jobs. Seriously. Some of these jobs I work harder on than others and I wouldn’t say I’m a CEO in any of them, BUT I stress out hard over all of them. I can’t imagine the level of stress Simon D must be going through.
In addition to stepping down, Simon D released a song called Me No Jay Park. The song itself is his resignation letter (no really that’s part of the lyrics. He says the song is his resignation letter). Also, there’s a line that says “I just had a hard time keeping up with Park’s speed”. The song, which is fire, makes me really sad. AND I completely understand. He’s saying that while Jay Park keeps getting better and doing more things, Simon has been setting his ambition lower and lower.
Comparing yourself to others is never a good thing to do but I know we all do it. Shoot I struggle daily with comparing myself to other mothers, women in their 30s who seem to be doing way better than I, etc. I can’t even imagine the things Simon was thinking these past two years. Sometimes we get so caught up with being hard on ourselves and thinking of things we didn’t do, that we don’t realize all the things we did do. Simon D has done so much for AOMG since he became a CEO and I just wish that he could see that.
The good news is that Simon D will continue to work under AOMG, just as an artist/employee. Maybe he won’t be under as much stress as he seems to be. I want to wish him well and want him to know that we (his fans) love and support him no matter what.
