In 2012 I wrote an article comparing and contrasting Dramafever and Viki, the only places where I felt comfortable watching dramas. Now don’t misunderstand, I still watched them in other places but I was constantly worried about whether or not my computer would get infected with a virus. Thankfully that never happened. Now that we are in 2019 and Dramafever shut its doors, there are more companies that are trying to fill the void. I thought it would be great to list out where to watch k-dramas.
Viki
Viki, the home of fansubs. We have come a long way, haven’t we? When I first started using Viki, also back in 2012, I was desperate for faster updates on the drama I was watching. Viki provided that for me. Even if the subs weren’t 100% accurate, if the show aired on Monday, it would be available on Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Recently, the subs aren’t uploaded as fast but they have gotten a lot better as far as accuracy. Hopefully, nothing happens to them because this is where I watch 80% of my dramas now.
Netflix
Netflix has been doing some great things lately, haven’t they? With the demise of Drama fever, Netflix picked up a few of the dramas fans were clamoring for and have been releasing new dramas on a weekly basis. I’m currently watching Vagabond there and it is totally amazing. I just wish I could get all the episodes at once.
Hulu
Hulu is honestly on its way out of the door. At least when it comes to Korean dramas. There are a few series still available and a few movies. I think I kept this on the list more so for nostalgia than anything else.
Kocowa
I’m not sure how Kocowa is related to Viki but I do know that they run almost the same dramas. Of course, there are some differences and you don’t need to have one to access the others. Honestly, I downloaded their app to my phone just in case. They have a variety of dramas and variety shows so if you are interested in things like Running Man, definitely check them out.
OnDemandKorea
This is the newest place where I watch dramas. I thought this was a place to watch shows without subtitles but apparently, I was wrong! They have currently airing dramas with subtitles as well as some older ones you might be interested in.
Let me know where you watch your dramas! Did I miss any sites? I also run another site called Asiandramawatch.com where you can find where you can watch Korean dramas. Hopefully, it can help you!
